Dear Wil Wheaton -
We will gladly give you a copy of STAR TREK ONLINE for a few of these cupcakes. Fair trade, we think.
We’ll be waiting for your hail.
Sincerely,
The STAR TREK ONLINE team
A few words on the launch of STAR TREK ONLINE.
Dear STAR TREK ONLINE Fans:
We hope you’ve been having fun exploring the final frontier in STAR TREK ONLINE, the first MMORPG set in the “Star Trek” universe. We’ve recently announced our first new major upgrade chock full of new Borg content, and we plan to bring you even more news in the near future!
We’re that some folks had problems getting into STO during the beta test period, and also during the “head start” period. Cryptic’s addressed those issues, and we think so far STO has had a pretty smooth start overall. Here’s what our team’s been up to most recently:
- They’ve upped server capacity by 75 percent since launch
- They’re adding new hardware and further software optimizations
- There’s a new queueing system in place and the team at Cryptic continues to work on further optimizing the log-in and play process.
Cryptic’s also listening to STO fans’ feedback on ground combat, and have been working closely with them to beef up both combat features and away missions. (This should be especially evident to those who have been with STO since closed beta!)
It’s also worth noting that STO’s Klingon faction has always been designed to complement Federation gameplay - thus, the Klingon aspect of the game has so far been heavy on the PvP.
But by the Sword of Kahless, Cryptic has heard the fans, and we are working to add more Klingon PvE as we speak! No full details yet, but long-range sensors are picking up a new Klingon Star Cluster, and our deep space probes are picking up what looks like the beginnings of a Klingon Fleet Action! We’ll have more details next month, so stay tuned!
Feel free to ask us questions by clicking here! You can also keep up with official developments via our Facebook fan page, our Twitter, or at the official STAR TREK ONLINE site! And stay tuned here and our Twitter for special giveaways!

The winning "Star Trek" haiku entries from our latest Facebook contest!
By Rabbi Don Cashman, a “TNG”-inspired haiku:
“Computer,” he said,
“Tea, Earl Grey, hot.” For Picard,
Better than Risa.
by John Thelin, touching on “Star Trek“‘s overarching philosophy:
The final frontier
Just keeps moving further out
Yet, it is inside
and finally, by Simon Gee, my favorite entry - reminiscent of the Tamarian language from the “TNG” episode “Darmok”:
Worf, his brow furrowed
Picard, his arms round Crusher
Riker, his beard gone
Congratulations to all these entrants, who all win a mini-set of STAR TREK ONLINE collectible cups from Del Taco!
The number of followers we have on our Twitter is the same as the year - 2409 - that STAR TREK ONLINE is set in!
